Getting Started

Everything you need to know to get started with Formant.

    Architecture

Formant supports your robotics application by connecting it to a suite of cloud services (collectively, the Formant Cloud) that provide capabilities such as:

    • Telemetry ingestion
    • Monitoring & alerts
    • Teleoperation
    • Remote intervention
    • Cloud-to-device commands
    • Event-based navigation
    • Event-triggered actions
    • Configuration management
    • Application configuration
    • Analytics

The Formant Cloud exposes a frontend, the Formant Web Application, and a command-line interface, fctl.

Communication between your application and the Formant Cloud is managed by the Formant Agent, which is designed to handle authentication, buffering, and transformation of data at the edge.

The Formant Agent provides out-of-the-box integration with common data sources like ROS, OPC-UA, or files and directories on the filesystem. It also exposes an API for your application to interact with directly.

The Formant Cloud backend stores the data, indexes it, supports monitoring and alerting, and integrates with other third-party systems like Slack, Pagerduty, Webhooks, and AWS S3.
